Dilution ratio of essential oils

Dilution ratio of essential oils

Dosing and dosing essential oils is a very important issue, especially for young children, infants and the elderly. However, it is important to note that there is no official recommended dosage for essential oils, just like pharmaceutical treatments. The dosage depends on the type of essential oil, the purpose of use, personal health and age.

In general, essential oils should always be used with caution, especially for more sensitive groups. It is always recommended to start with lower concentrations and watch for possible side effects or skin irritation. If you have any doubts about the use of essential oils, always consult a professional such as an aromatherapist or pediatrician.

The dilution percentage can usually be given in relation to the carrier oil!

  • For Toddlers and Infants: In general, dilutions in the 0.25-1% range are recommended for toddlers and infants. This means that you only need to add a few drops of essential oil (usually 1-2 drops) to a teaspoon (about 5 ml) of carrier oil. It is necessary to proceed with caution and monitor individual reactions
  • Older children (over 6 years of age): For older children, a dilution in the range of 1-3% is usually recommended. So you can add 1-3 drops of essential oil to a teaspoon of carrier oil.
  • Adults: For adults, a dilution ratio between 1-5% is usually recommended, depending on the purpose for which the essential oil is used and individual sensitivity. For example, 3-15 drops of essential oil can usually be added to a teaspoon of carrier oil (about 5 ml).
  • Older people: For older people, dilution is usually recommended in the range of 1-3%. This means that you can add several essential oils to a teaspoon of carrier oil, but always pay attention to individual reactions and possible skin irritation.

It is important to note that these are only general guidelines and may vary depending on individual needs and reactions. It is always important to consider individual sensitivities and reactions when using essential oils. If you are unsure of the correct dilution ratio, it is always a good idea to consult an aromatherapist or other professional who can help with personalized advice and guidelines.
